• Academician Peter Deuflhard of Germany has Visited the Beijing Ancient Observatory

  • On November 2nd, Peter Deuflhard, Academician of Germany Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, founding dean of Beijing Institute for Science and Engineering Computing, the first strategic scientist of Beijing, and professor Rolf Mohring, expert of Beijing Institute for Science and Engineering Computing and Strategic scientist of The sea poly project of Beijing overseas talents have visited the Beijing Ancient Observatory in accompany with President Guo Guangsheng of BJAST.

    Guo Guangsheng has pointed out that the Beijing Ancient Observatory is Royal Observatory in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which is a perfect combination of ancient science and humanities. Foreign missionaries in this period have made outstanding contribution to construction and development of Beijing Ancient Observatory.Xiao Jun, deputy director of the Beijing Ancient Observatory, and Dr. Wang Yumin have introduced the history and development of Beijing Ancient Observatory. Then, Professor Peter Deuflhard went to the top of Beijing Ancient Observatory and have learned about the structure and usage of the eight astronomical instruments of Qing Dynasty.

    After the visit, President Guo Guangsheng presented an ancient astronomical instrument as a gift to Professor Peter Deuflhard. Professor Peter Deuflhard and Professor Rolf Mohring have signed in the guest book and taken pictures.
