• Delegation led by Beijing Planetarium Won Success at International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA)

  • From November 12 to 21, five middle school students from Beijing, Guangzhou and other cities, led by team leaders from Beijing Planetarium, attended the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA 2017) held in Phuket, Thailand. 219 young astronomy amateurs from 44 countries and regions have attended the Olympiad.

    IOAA, International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) and Asia-Pacific Astronomy Olympiad (APAO) have been recognized as the three international astronomical Olympiads. The five contestants were all outstanding contestants from the 2017 China National Astronomy Olympiad (CNAO) and they participated in the Olympiad on behalf of China after being trained by Beijing Planetarium.

    During the competition, the Organizing Committee organized all the students to visit Prince of Songkla University and participate in team competition. After the competition, the Organizing Committee organized various activities such as talent show, art performance and so on. Chinese contestants have carried out friendly exchangers with other contestants.

    In the end, Chinese contestants have achieved the following awards, two silver medals, two bronze medals, one honorable mention, the best field observation award and the best team award.
